“To my big brother, George….the richest man in town.”
If there’s ever one line in movie history that can instantly turn on the waterworks for me, it’s that one.
To those who may not be familiar, that’s from the Christmas classic “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Those words were uttered to George Bailey, played magnificently by Jimmy Stewart, from his brother Harry in the final scene.
If you remember, George had a peek into how everyone’s lives would have been affected if he had never been born. And what he saw chilled him to the bone.
But with the help of his friends, neighbors, family, and a chubby little angel named Clarence, George got a second chance. And that’s where I want to focus today–second chances…
Because let’s face it–2013 most likely hasn’t ended up quite like you expected it to, has it?
You had big dreams. Big plans. And big expectations. THIS was the year you were going to put your business on the map to stay, and start living life the way you wanted to, instead of by someone else’s rules…
But something happened along the way to derail all that. Maybe it was an unexpected financial crisis. Or a sudden change in priorities that put all your plans on the back burner.
Or maybe…JUST maybe…you simply lost your confidence.
Think about it…a year ago, you were all charged up and ready to fire. Nothing was going to stand in your way, right?
But then, the voices started creeping in. You know the ones–those whispers of “you’re not good enough” or “you’ll never amount to anything” or “this whole idea is stupid and you’re stupid for wasting time and money on it.”
Soon your fire became a smoldering ember, then cold ashes. And with a heavy sigh and slumped shoulders, you resigned yourself to the status quo…and doing nothing.
Ringing any bells yet? I see alot of nodding heads out there.
But in 2014, it doesn’t have to be this way. You CAN begin your journey to greatness and achieve all the things you’ve ever dreamed of. And here are 3 tips to help get you there…
FIGHT: Changing gears–especially in mid-life–isn’t easy. There’s a lot of work and blood and sweat that go into it, not to mention a complete transformation of your mindset. That’s why never giving up is essential. You need to fight to overcome your obstacles and keep pressing on, no matter what happens. Because the people that fight through these challenges are the people that ultimately become the most successful.
FLEE: I know, I know–first I tell you to fight, now you’re supposed to run like a scared rabbit? YES, but only in certain situations, like when a spouse, parent, friend, or co-worker decides to give their two cents on your entrepreneurial venture. 99% of the time their input will be negative, and this is an open door for those voices to start whispering again. So don’t stand for it. When they start talking crap, just flee from the situation. Get out, go somewhere else, don’t let them drag you down. Because they will if you let them.
FOLLOW: Want to know the secret of success? Everything you want to do has already been done better than you (or I) could ever think of doing it. So don’t reinvent the wheel–just follow the same path that’s been laid before by leading business owners in your niche. They’ve already figured out how to get around all the obstacles and hidden traps that are waiting to snag you. So simply walk in their footsteps, give your products or services a unique twist, and watch your business take off.
Oh, and one more thing…I’d suggest hiring a professional business coach to help you accelerate your success even further. The impact of having someone who’s been there and done that with you every step of the way cannot be measured, and their insights will literally cut months (if not years) off your success journey. Yes, it’s an investment–but it’s an investment into YOU and your business that will ultimately pay off. So it’s really a no-brainer (I offer advanced coaching services like these for email marketers–to find out more, click HERE).
Just like George Bailey, you’ve got a second chance to make things happen in 2014. So seize the opportunity NOW and take a big step towards creating your own “wonderful life.”
I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by what you can really do. 🙂
